Building the Future: Meet the New U21 Coaching Team at Griquas

At the heart of rugby development lies a deep commitment to inclusivity, opportunity, and growth. The Game Development Department of Griquas Rugby is dedicated to providing and promoting access to the game for all — regardless of race, colour, creed, or gender — within the Union and Province’s jurisdiction. It’s about more than just rugby. It’s about building a pathway for all to enjoy and thrive in the game we love.

As part of this vision, we’re proud to introduce a dynamic new U21 coaching team, set to steer the next generation of Griquas talent toward success.

Leading the Charge: Coach Johnathan Francke

At the helm is Coach Johnathan Francke, a respected rugby veteran with rich experience both on the field and in coaching circles. Known for his tactical insight and player-first approach, Francke brings a winning mentality and a deep passion for developing young talent.

A Team Built on Experience

Supporting him are Assistant Coaches Jonathan Adendorf and Ederies Arendse — both former Griquas players who understand the culture, pressure, and pride of wearing the jersey. Their firsthand knowledge and strategic mindset will play a key role in nurturing the rising stars of Griquas Rugby.

Strong Leadership Behind the Scenes

Behind every great team is great management, and Karabo Mathomme steps in as Team Manager. A former player himself and an exceptional administrator, Karabo brings years of experience working with young athletes and is confident in leading this squad to new heights — both on and off the field.

Together, this leadership group brings the perfect balance of experience, energy, and dedication. With their combined expertise and unwavering commitment, the future of the Griqualand West Rugby Union looks brighter than ever.
