Rising Star Spotlight: Lidene Kruger in the Springbok Women’s Sevens Training Squad

We’re thrilled to announce that Lidene Kruger, one of our talented Women’s players, has been selected for the Springbok Women’s Sevens Training Squad, scheduled for 3–15 August 2025 as part of the lead‑up to key international events.

Lidene’s rugby journey is nothing short of inspiring. After high school, she made the bold move from playing hockey to giving rugby a try—and she’s never looked back!

A standout centre for Griquas, Lindene quickly made her mark with Griquas and impressed selectors with her skill, strength, and passion for the game. In 2024, she earned a spot in the Junior Springbok U/20 Women’s Squad, and now, she’s taking the next big step with the Springbok Sevens.

What is the Sevens Training Camp?

The Springbok Women’s Sevens training camp is an intense two-week program where top players from across the country come together to train, grow, and compete for a place in upcoming international tournaments.

For Lidene, this selection is more than an honor—it’s a transformational opportunity to train alongside top-tier players, undertake elite level conditioning, and be assessed by Springbok Women’s Sevens coaches. She’s proof that local talent can rise up and stand tall among the best. The Springbok Women’s Sevens squad is ramping up ahead of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger Series, which kicked off in Cape Town earlier this year, followed by tournaments in Poland and Los Angeles. As Springbok Women’s Sevens assistant coach Cecil Afrika confirmed, only a few squad members lacked prior Series experience. Lidene’s inclusion signals a significant boost of fresh energy and potential.

We’re Cheering You On, Lidene!

From the whole Griquas family and community, congratulations, Lidene! We are so proud of you and will be following your journey closely.

Keep working hard, stay humble, and enjoy every moment. The Springbok jersey is calling—and you’re ready for it!
