Taking the Trophy Home
From the moment we brought the Currie Cup back to Kimberley, our mission was simple — to take it to the people who made it possible. The Trophy Tour has been a celebration of community pride. From the streets of Kimberley to towns across the Northern Cape, we’ve been welcomed with open arms, big smiles, and even bigger voices.
Seeing our fans — young and old — light up at the sight of the trophy reminded us exactly why we play this game. You made “painting the town PouBlou” a reality, and every stop along the way became a reminder of how deeply rooted rugby is in our communities.
Connecting With Our Communities
We’ve loved every opportunity to meet fans face-to-face since the final whistle blew. From fan filled streets leading to the stadium when the bus pulled into Kimberley from our trip home from Ellis Park. To joining in at community festivals like Kwela Makietie in Bloemhof, visiting schools and towns like Hartswater, Kathu and Boshof, or just chatting to locals over a braai — these moments have reminded us that rugby isn’t just a sport here, it’s a family.
Your encouragement, your stories, and your pride fuel us for what’s next. It’s been humbling to see how this victory has resonated beyond the field — connecting people across towns and generations in true Griquas spirit.
Building Community
One of our greatest joys since winning the Currie Cup has been spending time with the communities across the Northern Cape.
At the Top 10 and Colours & Merit Combined Awards Ceremony at Kimberley Boys’ High, our head coach Pieter Bergh was honoured to address the learners, celebrating their achievements and inspiring them to keep striving for excellence — both on and off the field.
Our journey also took us to Jan Kemp Dorp, where Albert Liebenberg and Carl Els had the privilege of taking the Currie Cup Trophy to visit one of our own — Russell Pitchers. Russell is a proud old boy, former player, and long-serving staff member who dedicated many years to the Griquas. It was an emotional visit, filled with gratitude and shared memories as the Cup came home to someone who helped build the foundation of who we are today.
We also made sure to share the moment with some of our legendary old boys, including Manetjies Roux, Gert Scheepers, Peet and Tos Smith, whose legacy continues to inspire the next generation of players.
Our goal remains simple — to keep creating pathways for players and the next generation of Currie Cup winners. With your continued support, that dream feels closer than ever.
Giving Back Where It Matters Most
Community has always been at the heart of who we are. While our CANSA Game took place before the Currie Cup win, our commitment to supporting cancer awareness and community health has continued long after.
In the past two months, we’ve proudly participated in CANSA walks, joined the OFM Bowling for Boobies event in Hartswater, and supported the Walk for Hope Cancer Awareness initiative hosted by the Office of the Premier – Northern Cape.
These events remind us that wearing the jersey means more than representing a rugby team — it means standing with our people through every challenge and cause that matters. As proud representatives of this province, we’ll continue to back initiatives that uplift our communities and bring hope where it’s needed most.
The Currie Cup may have given us the spotlight, but together, we’re determined to use it to make a lasting difference.
Memories That Will Last a Lifetime
Every celebration, every handshake, every photo with the Cup — those moments belong to all of us. Watching kids hold the trophy, hearing stories from lifelong supporters, and seeing families dressed in blue — it’s been emotional and unforgettable.
We’re now gearing up for one of the highlights of our season — the Currie Cup Celebration and Awards Evening, taking place on Thursday, 13 November. This special night will bring together our players, coaches, partners, and supporters as we look back on an unforgettable season and honour the individuals who made it possible. From standout performances on the field to the dedication shown behind the scenes, this evening is about celebrating everyone who played a part in our 2025 Currie Cup journey. It promises to be a night filled with pride, gratitude, and true Griquas spirit as we reflect on the road that brought the Cup home to Kimberley.
Join Us On the Journey
Our journey together is far from over. Keep an eye on our pages for upcoming trophy stops and community events. Bring your friends, wear your blue, and come be part of the continued celebration.
Because when we say “We Are Griquas,” we mean every player, every fan, every family, and every community that’s part of this incredible story.
Thank you for helping us make history — and for reminding us what true team spirit looks like.
