From PE to the Professional Stage
Growing up in the Eastern Cape, Jac developed his love for rugby in a province known for producing tough, uncompromising forwards. That foundation shaped the player he would become — physical, dependable, and disciplined.
Before joining the Griquas, Jac represented University of Cape Town (UCT), where he further refined his game in one of the country’s most competitive varsity rugby environments. His time at UCT helped sharpen both his technical skill and tactical understanding — key traits for a modern-day flanker.
The Engine Room: A True Flanker
Standing at 184cm, Jac brings mobility and intensity to the loose trio. As a flanker, his role demands relentless work at the breakdown, dominant tackles, and constant support play — responsibilities he embraces fully.
Described simply as honest and hardworking, Jac’s approach to rugby mirrors his personality. He’s the type of player coaches trust and teammates rely on — not always the loudest on the field, but consistently among the most committed.
Inspired by the Best
Like many South African flankers, Jac grew up admiring the tenacity and breakdown brilliance of Heinrich Brüssow. Brüssow’s fearless contesting at the ruck and defensive work rate have clearly influenced Jac’s own style of play.
That influence shows in his willingness to do the unseen work — slowing opposition ball, fighting for turnovers, and making crucial tackles when it matters most.
Beyond the Field
Off the field, Jac keeps things simple. When it comes to food, you can’t go wrong with a proper South African spread — steak, crayfish, or lamb tail top his favourites list. It’s fitting for a player who brings that same no-nonsense, authentic approach to everything he does.
