The Griqualand West Rugby Union (Griquas Rugby) is pleased to announce the re-election of its top leadership following the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held this past Saturday in Kimberley. Monte Engelbrecht has been reappointed as President, with Johan Myburgh returning as Vice-President — both elected unopposed to serve another four-year term.
When we lifted the 2025 Currie Cup, it wasn’t just our moment — it was Kimberley’s, it was the Northern Cape’s, it was every supporter who’s stood by the Suzuki Griquas through the years. This victory belongs to our people, and over the past few weeks, we’ve had the absolute privilege of sharing it with you.
It happened. After more than half a century of dreaming, fighting, and believing — the Suzuki Griquas are Currie Cup champions. It was a struggle to get pen to paper and write a post match report on a game that was charged with emotions, a full 83 minutes kept you on the edge of your seat. On a warm Saturday afternoon at Ellis Park, in front of thousands of roaring supporters both at the ground and across the country, our boys in PouBlou etched their names into history with a heart-stopping 27-25 victory over the Lions.
Kimberley was electric on Saturday night as the Suzuki Griquas powered past the Toyota Cheetahs to seal their place in the 2025 Currie Cup Final. For the first time in 27 years, a semi-final was staged in Kimberley — and under the floodlights no less — giving fans an unforgettable night of rugby history.
The Suzuki Griquas fell to the Golden Lions in our final Currie Cup round-robin match on Saturday, 6 September, with the home side claiming a 37–7 victory at Ellis Park. Despite a spirited opening, the Lions’ second-half dominance proved decisive as they secured top spot on the Currie Cup log pushing Griquas to number two on the log.

The Suzuki Griquas produced a performance of power, precision, and belief to secure a 42–21 victory over the Vodacom Bulls at Tuine_Grizzleis Rugby Club on Sunday, 24 August 2025. It was a result that showcased not only individual brilliance but also the depth and unity of a side intent on making their mark in this year’s Currie Cup.
